Qingming Festival , also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day, is one of China’s most significant traditional observances. Falling on April 4th this year, this centuries-old tradition combines solemn remembrance with joyful celebration of spring.
With traditions dating back over 2,500 years,Qingming is when families visit ancestral graves to sweep tombs, offer flowers, and burn incense – quiet acts of remembrance that maintain a tangible connection to family history. Yet the festival is equally about embracing life’s renewal. As winter fades, people take spring outings, fly colorful kites (sometimes with messages to departed loved ones), and enjoy seasonal delicacies like sweet green rice balls
The festival’s poetic Chinese name – “Clear Brightness” – perfectly captures its dual nature. It’s a time when the crisp spring air seems to cleanse the spirit, inviting both solemn reflection and joyful appreciation of nature’s rebirth.
Our offices will be closed April 4-6 for the holiday. Whether you’re observing traditions or simply enjoying spring’s arrival, may this Qingming bring you moments of peace and renewal.
